Normandy Invasion to make first start in more than a year

Jun 29, 2015 - 3:22 PM Stanton, DE (SportsNetwork.com) - Fox Hill Farm's Normandy Invasion, the 2013 Wood Memorial runner-up, will make his first start in more than a year Wednesday in Delaware Park's seventh race.

Trained by Larry Jones, Normandy Invasion is entered in a $36,000 allowance race at 1 1/16 miles for older males. The 5-year-old will take on seven rivals and start from post 3 with the trainer's top jockey Kerwin Clark riding.

Normandy Invasion has had a lot of physical problems since his fourth-place finish behind Orb in the 2013 Kentucky Derby. The Run for the Roses was his last race as a 3-yesr-old and last year he had just three starts.

"First, he had the deep abscess along with being underweight which caused us to give him the 2nd half of his 3yo year off," Fox Hill's Rick Porter posted on the farm's website earlier. "After just a few races at 4, he then got a lung infection that caused us to give him plenty of time this year.

Normandy Invasion returned as a 4-year-old by winning an allowance race at Gulfstream Park in February followed by a second to Palace Malice in the New Orleans Handicap. He finished 10th behind Palace Malice in the Met Mile for his final start of 2014.

Normandy Invasion has two wins and three seconds in nine lifetime starts for $504,390.
