Maryland F Bender (knee) out for the season

Dec 31, 2017 - 6:42 PM Maryland junior forward Ivan Bender will undergo season-ending knee surgery, coach Mark Turgeon said Sunday.

Bender tore meniscus cartilage in his right knee during Friday's contest against Maryland-Baltimore County.

"Ivan has been playing some of his best basketball over the past month," Turgeon said in a news release. "He has developed into a strong contributor for our team and we are going to miss his leadership and presence on the court. We are confident that he will make a full recovery."

Bender averaged 3.4 points and 2.9 rebounds in 15 games (seven starts) this season.

Bender is the second Terrapins' player lost to a season-ending injury in recent days. It was announced on Thursday that sophomore forward Justin Jackson will miss the rest of the campaign with a shoulder injury that will require surgery.
