Rabil, Schwartzman & Wolf named MLL Players of the Week

Jun 24, 2014 - 1:43 PM Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Major League Lacrosse, the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced Week 8's Warrior Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week and the Cascade Rookie of the Week today.

This week, Paul Rabil was awarded honors for his offensive presence in helping the Boston Cannons defeat the Ohio Machine in overtime, and Jesse Schwartzman was recognized for the second time this season for serving as an impenetrable backstop for the Denver Outlaws in their victory over the Chesapeake Bayhawks. Rookie attackman Jordan Wolf continues to prove his worth as he has now collected 12 points in two games played, this week helping the Rochester Rattlers defeat the Florida Launch. All awarded players earned Coca-Cola Player of the Game honors in their respective matches.

Rabil led the Cannons to their second 17-16 victory over the Ohio Machine this season, this time in sudden victory overtime. Having already collected a hat trick complemented by a two-point goal, Rabil entered the extra time with a total of eight points. Coming off of a time-out, Rabil found attackman Will Manny and set him up to fire a shot past Ohio goaltender Brian Phipps for Rabil's fifth assist of the game and Manny's fifth goal. Rabil now leads the team and the League with 40 points, light years ahead of teammates Manny and Kevin Buchanan, who are tied for second place on the Cannons' roster with 29 points apiece.

Schwartzman and the Outlaws shut down the Bayhawks in one of the lowest scoring games of the season, defeating their visitors 9-6. Schwartzman had a save percentage of 0.82, stopping all five shots faced in the first, nine out of ten in the second, three out of five in the third, and five out of eight in the fourth. Not only did Schwartzman post career numbers in the game, but he also took the lead in every net-minder category on the League leaderboard thus far this season, most impressively with with an 8.50 goals against average and a .633 save percentage.

Wolf was awarded his second consecutive Cascade Rookie of the Week honor as he and the Rochester Rattlers downed the Florida Launch 18-13. The first year attackman netted two goals and accrued five assists, upping his season total to six goals and six assists in merely two games played.
