Cockerton, Fletcher & Holman named MLL Players of the Week

Aug 5, 2014 - 2:14 PM Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Major League Lacrosse, the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced Week 13's Warrior Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week and the Cascade Rookie of the Week today.

This week, Marcus Holman was given the nod for his outstanding six-goal performance, playing a huge role in the Ohio Machine's defeat of the Rochester Rattlers. Lizards rookie Joe Fletcher earned the defensive honors this week for his tight coverage on Charlotte veteran Ryan Young, holding him without points for the first time in 30 games. Rookie Mark Cockerton was huge contributor, with four goals, in Rochester's loss to the Machine this past weekend.

Holman was named the Warrior Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season following a top-notch performance in an important team victory. In his best game of the season, Holman totaled eight points (six goals, two assists) and even picked up three groundballs. Holman now sits tied for first among the MLL's 2014 scoring leaders with 33, and can be credited in helping put Ohio in position to grab a playoff spot.

Fletcher came out strong in the Lizards' last-minute triumph over the Hounds, scoring the first goal of his MLL career and leadoff goal of the game. The rookie was part of a defense that held Charlotte back and prevented prolific scorers like Ryan Young to get on the board. For the first time in 30 games, Young was held without a point due to Fletcher's strong defensive performance.

Cockerton continued the domination by the Rochester rookies, earning his second Cascade Rookie of the Week title, and the fifth for the team. In Rochester's loss to Ohio, Cockerton had four goals and one groundball, bringing his point total to 22 for the season, and making him the second most productive rookie on the Rattlers' roster.
