Looking to secure a sweep, Brady Singer went to the mound and turned in a terrific 6.0 innings, allowing just 1 run while striking out 9. The Royals stormed out the gates with doubles from Maikel Garcia and Bobby Witt Jr. followed by an RBI single from Salvador Perez to go up 2-0. Maikel and Bobby would each drive in a pair of runs in multi-hit performances. Vinnie Pasquantino provided the big blow with a pinch-hit, three-run triple to put the game out of reach and give the Royals a sweep over the Athletics.
Seth Lugo continued his great stretch of pitching, reaching double-digit strikeouts in a second straight start with 10 over 5.2 innings. Salvador Perez got the Royals on the board in the 1st inning with a two run single before the Athletics tied it in the 2nd. Vinnie Pasquantino and Nelson Velázquez each had RBI knocks to put the Royals back ahead, and Kyle Isbel hit his fourth homer of the season to put the Royals up 5-3. John Schreiber, Angel Zerpa, and James McArthur would not relinquish the lead to give the Royals a second straight win over the A's and secure a series win with a chance for a sweep.
OAK 3, KAN 5On the night the Royals celebrated the 2014 American League Championship team, the Royals captured a resounding win over the Athletics. Cole Ragans was in top form, striking out 7 over 7.0 scoreless innings. Salvador Perez opened the scoring with an RBI single reminiscent of his iconic 2014 Wild Card hit, then Michael Massey and Maikel Garcia piled on with home runs in the 6th innings to give the Royals more than enough cushion to take the series opener vs. the Athletics.
